In Duel for Middle-earth, you'll have to choose sides. Play as the Fellowship of the Ring, prevent the Enemy from gaining ground and destroy the One Ring. Or play as Sauron and send your Nazgûls after Sam and Frodo, spreading your hordes over enemy cities. The fate of Middle-earth is in your hands!
A game is played in 3 successive chapters. On your turn, play a card or a High Place to increase your skills, swell your treasury, expand your presence in Middle-earth, rally Races to your cause, or help you progress in the Quest for the Ring. Win the game immediately by fulfilling one of the following 3 conditions: win the Quest for the Ring, seal an alliance with 6 Races or dominate Middle-earth.

This game is just phenomenal! On the surface it looks like 7 wonders Duel with a mere rethematisation...of course the game shares a DNA, but the changes in victory conditions and rebalancing makes it a more tensed and exciting game than 7WD - the war winning condition is beefed up with a area majority type game with purple cards creating a new player interaction that is absent in 7WD, blue cards are now used to move the Hobbits or the Nazgul on a race/hunt track, and finally the green cards "science" victory now people of Middle-Earth cards give you special powers that makes it exciting to pursue. If you liked 7WD and you like TLoR, you will absolutely love this one. If you never tried 7WD, go straight to this one even if you do not like TLoR. Finally, the art by Vincent Dutrait is just exceptional! No doubt, Duel for Middle-Earth is a must have of 2024!
