Kobolds Ate My Baby gets a new edition!

We're back at it again causing havoc and burning down the town with everyone's favorite cannon fodder - THE KOBOLDS!

This campaign features all these RAD things:

  • Kobolds Ate My Baby! The Orange Book (a completely new edition of the game powered by polymorph™)

  • Plush Kobold

  • SMÖRKAS BORG, Kobolds Ate My Baby x Mörk Borg Zine

  • Kobolds Ate My Baby! The Coloring Book and an Orange Crayon

  • Kobolds Ate My Baby! The Dice Set

  • Kobolds Ate My Baby! The Digital Adventure Pack

Kobolds Ate My Baby is the cult classic, beer & pretzels roleplaying game.

It all started WAY BACK in the late 1900's with the 1st edition in zine form releasing in 1999. Then there was the deluxe hardcover put out in 2005 by Dorkstorm Press.

⏩ Fast forward to 2013 when the then new Kobolds Ate My Baby in Colour dropped. Well, that was 10 years ago. 10 YEARS MAN!

If you're completely new to KOBOLDS ATE MY BABY! or to polymorph games - we can totally explain what you need to know about being a Kobold, and how to play KOBOLDS ATE MY BABY! in under 10 minutes.

You just just listed tons of editions of Kobolds Ate My Baby, why another edition? It's been 10 years since the last time we made a Kobolds game, and in that time we have evolved as designers and as a company.  We've been dying to bring the simplicity and speed of our polymorph rules system to the experience of Kobolds for years, and now we can.  We've also learned so much about making cool books and products - and we're excited to get a new, tasty book in your hands.

What can I expect in the new edition?

Over 100 pages of silly jokes and sillier kobolds
  • Even faster character creation (necessary since you die a lot)
  • Streamlined, elegant rules that make it even more fun to die horribly for King Torg (All Hail King Torg!)
  • polymorph is so easy, a Kobold could play - roll your die and check to see if you succeeded
  • Death Checks and Damage all rolled into a single system
  • Treats (you'll have to wait to hear more about it)
  • Random Tables
  • More Random Tables
  • And, in case you were worried, some Random Tables

For those of you who already know how to play Kobolds Ate My Baby, you may not believe us - but we are making character creation EVEN FASTER! Answer these 3 questions (or Roll against a Random Table*).

  • What is in your LEFT PAW?
  • What is in your WRONG PAW?
  • What JOB do you have?

That's all.  You're ready to play.  The character sheet has everything that you need to play - including THE RESOLVER and of course THE KOBOLD HORRIBLE DEATH RECORD.  polymorph games all have a simple resolver that is listed on their character sheet.  The New ORANGE BOOK will do that for Kobolds (see below).

The polymorph System is a new and modern rules system designed by Chris O'Neill (who just so happens to be one of the creators of Kobolds Ate My Baby!) Convenient.

In a polymorph game, each player only ever uses a specific polyhedral die (d4, d6, d8, or d10). Each die represents a different “way to play” or a different “role” that they have in the group. Basically, your ROLE is your ROLL. Whenever a player asks “can I do something?” they roll their die and with a quick glance at a resolution matrix, know if they succeed.

There is NEVER any math involved when you play polymorph. Depending on the game world and what kind of character that you are playing, you may roll with advantage or disadvantage, but the game master never rolls dice.

To recap:
  • No math! Roll your die and consult the Resolver Chart
  • The GM never rolls, keeping the focus on the player.
  • Players succeed when they do things that their character is good at
  • Rules light with a narrative focus

polymorph won BEST RULES 2020 from IGDN Groundbreaker Awards (for Mazes FRP), has been nominated for ENNIE Awards for both Best Rules and Product of the Year (Mazes and The Excellents), and Mazes Fantasy Roleplaying has been nominated by Indiecade for Best RPG in 2022.
